BUSHMILLS IS THE WORLD’S OLDEST LICENSED WHISKEY DISTILLERY.
Bushmills is home to the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distillery. Official records stretch back to 1608, when the area was granted its license to distil. Over 400 years later, whiskey is still being made in Bushmills, thanks to experience and craft passed down from generation to generation.
They couldn’t make their whiskey anywhere but there. Their water, drawn from the River Bush, flows over beds of basalt rock.
Bushmills is more than just a whiskey. It’s a village, where family, friends and neighbours work side by side at the distillery. As they often say, “without the village there would be no whiskey, and without the whiskey there would be no village”.
ORIGINAL | THE CLASSIC IRISH BLEND
The Bushmills Original recipe dates back to before prohibition. Combining their single malt whiskey and a lighter grain whiskey, you’ll notice its rich, smooth warming taste almost instantly, just as generations have done before.
Tasting notes: The cornerstone of their family, Bushmills Original is a smooth and versatile triple distilled blend. An approachable whiskey which has been matured in both bourbon and sherry casks resulting in fresh fruit and vanilla notes.
BLACK BUSH | HIGH SINGLE MALT COMPONENT, MOSTLY MATURED IN SHERRY CASKS
Black Bush Irish whiskey combines an exceptionally high amount of malt married with a sweet, small-batch grain whiskey, and then matured in former Oloroso sherry and bourbon casks. This unique recipe means Black Bush has rich, fruity notes and a deep intense character, balanced by an incredibly unique smoothness. It’s best enjoyed neat, over ice, or in classic cocktails. The most seasoned of Irish whiskey drinkers know that you can’t beat Black Bush.
THE MALTS | 10 YEAR OLD | THE PIONEERING IRISH SINGLE MALT
Bushmills 10 Year Old is a marriage of single malts matured for at least 10 years in hand-selected bourbon barrels and sherry butts. Zesty and fresh on the nose, followed by notes of ripe fruit, creamy vanilla and soft toasted wood.
TASTING NOTES: Ripe fruit, creamy milk chocolate and toasted wood.
CASKS: Bourbon barrels and sherry butts
COLOUR: Amber gold
NOSE: Initial accents of zesty citrus fruits intertwined with the distinctive Bushmills honey character, followed by lingering sweet aromas of fresh vanilla and creamy milk chocolate
TASTE: On the palate, mellow sweet notes of vanilla, milk chocolate and fresh honeysuckle married with delicate traces of toasted oak
FINISH: A crisp finish that dwindles gently on the palate
THE MALTS | 16 YEAR OLD | THREE WOOD, FINISHED IN PORT PIPES
Bushmills 16 Year Old is a marriage of single malts matured for at least 16 years in hand-selected Oloroso sherry butts and bourbon barrels, then finished in port pipes for up to a year. This triple casking transforms the colour to a beautiful ruby red and adds layers of juicy sun-ripened dark fruit and berries, complex almond nuttiness and a treacly vanilla spice.
TASTING NOTES: Caramelised red berries, toasted nuts and vanilla spice.
CASKS: Sherry, bourbon and port
COLOUR: Ruby red
NOSE: The robustness of the three woods is immediately evident with big aromas of treacle toffee intermingling with sweet spice accents of cinnamon and nutmeg
TASTE: Robust flavours of caramelised peaches and mango marry notes of toasted almonds and walnuts, giving exceptional depth and complexity
FINISH: Layered and lingering, initial notes of concentrated jammed berries lead to a silky milk chocolate finish
21 YEAR OLD | AN ICON OF IRISH WHISKEY. SINGLE MALT FINISHED IN MADEIRA CASKS
Their Bushmills 21 Year Old is a marriage of single malts matured for at least 19 years in hand-selected Oloroso sherry butts and bourbon barrels, then finished in Madeira casks for a further two years.
This unusually long finishing period allows their single malt to patiently mellow, mature and pick up deeper notes of ripe fruit and dried raisins from the fortified Portuguese wine casks.
Their 21 Year Old is only crafted in limited numbers and each bottle is numbered.
TASTING NOTES: Dark chocolate, ripe fruit and sweet hazelnut.
CASKS: Sherry, bourbon and Madeira
COLOUR: Deep mahogany
NOSE: Rich aromas of fresh honey and ripe summer fruits combine with delicate notes of sweet hazelnuts and cacao
TASTE: Deep rich flavours of dark chocolate and toffee precede notes of vanilla sweetness, toasted nuts and just a hint of charred oak
FINISH: Long and delicate, synonymous of the subtle flavour journey of this unique triple wood single malt whiskey
