South African Keepers of the Quaich series
Introducing Craig Doré
Today, we had the privilege of catching up with Craig Doré, who started his career in liquor at Gilbeys in 1994 as a Brand Manager. He then worked for Diageo for thirteen years in various brand management, innovation and commercial marketing roles, including four years in SouthEast Asia. His Whisky contributions include a reposition for the J&B brand, project lead for a Johnnie Walker innovation and Commercial Marketing lead for a global step-change in the Johnnie Walker Programme.
Currently he is the Marketing Director at the Really Great Brand Company, and he adds; “we continue the great work in Scotch with Glenmorangie, Ardbeg and Monkey Shoulder.”
Craig was made a Keeper of the Quaich in 2014 and was elected the Chairmen of the South African KOTQ Chapter 2017 – 2019. Currently he serves as the Secretary to the SA Chapter.
Craig told us; “I love Scotland and love the process of making whisky, from completion of the Newly Made spirit, to the intricacies of the finishes in the various barrels.” His most memorable whisky experience or tasting was having the luxury of sampling a 1966 Balvenie at the distillery, before midday!
And when asked who is the most famous person he has shared a dram of whisky with, his answer; “Pierre Meintjies as he has committed a lifetime of service to the Uisce beatha (Irish pronunciation: [ˈɪʃcə ˈbʲahə]), literally “water of life“, the name given for whiskey in Irish.”
We salute Craig and the incredible work he continues to do for the Whisky category in South Africa.
