The Glenlivet unveils its first Peated Whisky since the 19th Century

The release of The Glenlivet Nàdurra Peated Whisky Cask Finish in South Africa is set to pique the interest of both single malt connoisseurs and lovers of fine craft whisky. Not only does this rare single malt complete The Glenlivet’s celebrated new craft whisky range – it marks the first time since the 19th century that this top-selling global brand has produced a peated whisky.

The Glenlivet Nàdurra Peated Whisky Cask Finish is a tribute to the historic traditions of making single malt whisky through new and innovative cask finishes. Its elegant, sultry, gently smoked taste profile affirms that it has been finished in American oak casks that have previously held heavily-peated Scotch whisky. The aromatic, sophisticated notes are perfectly balanced with the classic and smooth, fruity house style for which The Glenlivet single malt has been famous since 1824. In fact, many of the 19th Century methods that The Glenlivet founder George Smith created – he originally used peat smoke to dry malted barley when crafting the single malt that started it all – have been applied.

The release of The Glenlivet Nàdurra Peated Whisky Cask Finish into the domestic market in March this year, follows the launch of The Glenlivet Nàdurra First Fill Selection and The Glenlivet Nàdurra Oloroso in 2016. While these were named after the wood that has imparted the greatest in?uence during the maturation process, this new expression is the first release in this range to have a subtle, smoky taste profile, having been finished in peated casks, to offer a brand new The Glenlivet experience to whisky enthusiasts.

Nàdurra means ‘natural’ in Gaelic and pure craftsmanship is behind the creation of The Glenlivet Nàdurra Peated Whisky Cask Finish, and its fellow expressions. Each has been handcrafted and bottled in small batches with no chill-filtration to offer the complexity, full body and distinctively creamy texture of a whisky that has just been drawn from the cask.

‘As with each whisky in the Nàdurra range, a limited quantity of the Nàdurra Peated is available because of the extensive time and craftsmanship involved in its making,’ says The Glenlivet Brand Manager, Eugene Lenford.

With its warming mouthfeel, swirls of vanilla cream and subtle traces of tangy smoke, this expression is a rare taste that beautifully demonstrates The Glenlivet’s commitment to creating the purest of whiskies that set the benchmark for quality and innovation.

The Nàdurra Peated is available from selected stores countrywide at approximately R818.92 – the same price as Nàdurra First Fill and Nàdurra Oloroso.
