SA is the 7th largest export market in the world for Scotch Whisky by volume.

South Africans consumed £39.9 Million worth of Scotch Whisky in 2015 – 18.5 million bottles!

The average South African Whisky drinker is 36-years old.

The James Sedgwick Distillery in Wellington is one of the only commercial Whisky distilleries in Africa and produces award-winning Bain’s Cape Mountain Whisky Three Ships.

SIX

Reflecting global trends, Irish Whiskey consumption is on the rise in South Africa. Jameson is the best-selling Irish Whiskey globally and has reported double- to triple-digit growth particularly in the USA, South Africa and Russia. Both, Pernod-Ricard and DIAGEO – competing spirits giants – recently announced plans to invest considerably in Irish Whiskey production capacity in the coming months.

Visitors to Whisky Live will be delighted by the likes of Redbreast, Powers John’s Lane, Yellow Spot and Green Spot at the 2017 Whisky Live events; a reliable barometer for South African whisky trends. Joining the popular Whisky Live circuit in 2017 is The Pogues, the official Irish Whiskey of the legendary Celtic rock band, and West Cork Irish Whiskey. Visitors to Whisky Live can also taste the whiskey from the oldest distilelry in the world, Bushmills. Jameson Caskmates has been aged in craft beer barrels and is on offer while visitors should not miss Tullamore D.E.W. 14 Year Old - only 70 casks were released worldwide and some of this limited liquid will be on offer for tasting.

SEVEN

Whisky is a great base for cocktails. Don’t miss the Black Bottle Old Fashioned and Rob Roy and stop by the Consol whisky-inspired pop-up cocktail bar at Whisky Live! Monkey Shoulder – blend of 3 single malts – also makes a great cocktail.

EIGHT

Bourbon is making a comeback – look out for Maker’s Mark with its distinctive red-dipped bottle.

NINE

Jack Daniels is an American Whiskey, not a bourbon. Once distilled, it is filtered through 3m stacks of sugar maple charcoal, giving it a gorgeous caramel flavour.

TEN

Whisky spelt with an 'e' denotes American and Irish whiskey. Whisky spelt without an 'e' denotes Scotch whisky. Whisky Live presents a range of premium Scotch whiskies for tasting under the expert guidance of whisky masters. Visitors to Whisky Live in Durban from 1 - 3 June at The Wavehouse in Gateway can taste from a range of premium single malts including The Macallan Fine Oak, Bunnahabhain, Dalmore, Jura, Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Glenmorangie, The Glenlivet, Aberlour and Glen Grant.
